Cameron Boyce—known for his role in Disney Channel shows such as Jessie and Descendants, as well as Adam Sandler franchise Grown Ups—confirmed Sunday the morning that the actor has died at the age of 20. Boyce “passed away in his sleep due to a seizure which was a result of an ongoing medical condition for which he was being treated,” a statement read.
Boyce had appeared in various Disney Channel series from the age of 11 onward, including Shake it Up and Good Luck Charlie, before breaking out with the role of Luke Ross on four-season series Jessie. He also appeared throughout the Disney villain-centric Descendants franchise as Carlos De Vil, son of 101 Dalmatians villain Cruella. At the time of his death, Cameron also held a role in upcoming HBO series Mrs Fletcher, featuring Kathryn Hahn.
On the film side, Boyce portrayed the son of Adam Sandler’s character in both Grown Ups and Grown Ups 2. Sandler shared his grief with the news over Instagram, writing “Too young. Too sweet. Too funny. Just the nicest, most talented, and most decent kid around. Loved that kid. Cared so much about his family. Cared so much about the world. Thank you, Cameron, for all you gave to us. So much more was on the way. All our hearts are broken. Thinking of your amazing family and sending our deepest condolences.”
Boyce was also known for his humanitarian work, particularly his involvement with the Thirst Project, a non-profit aimed at tackling the global water crisis. In 2017, he raised more than $27,000 for the charity that went toward building wells in Swaziland.
Boyce’s death was mourned by shocked fans on social media on Sunday.
