Article 15 is the weapon that breaks the barriers of the upper caste and lower caste. Let's understand what is Article 15 and why is it important for the largest democracy in the world.

Article 15 is the Fundamental Right in India. Currently, it is a buzz in the Indian cinema world because of a movie released on this article.

Recently a movie is released based on the “Article 15” of the Indian constitution namely “Article 15”. This movie is based on the “Dalit atrocities” and discrimination against the person of this particular caste. The movie is directed and produced by the Anubhav Sinha and its date of release is 28th June 2019.

In the limelight of the movie, this story which explains that what are the key provisions in the "article 15" of the Indian constitution.

These powers have been given to the State so that it can create such provisions that which can help these sections rise up and become equals to the other sections of society. It can be said that these provisions are meant for the upliftment of those sections of the society which have been a downtrodden/poor state for many years

Article 15 (1) and (2) prohibit the state from discriminating any citizen on the ground of any religion, caste, race, sex, place of birth or any of them. These articles provide that there shall be no restriction on any person on any of the above bases to access and use public places such as restaurants, shops, hotels, places of public entertainment etc.

From article 15(3) onwards, the constitution starts protective discrimination. Article 15(3) empowers the state to make special provisions for women and children.

Article 15(4) empowers the state to make special provisions for the advancement of socially and educationally backwards or SC/STs.

Article 15(5) goes one step forward and empowers the state to make a reservation in admission into education institutions including private colleges or private schools whether or not aided by the government. Only minority educational institutions (such as Madarsas) have been left out of in this provision.

Thus, article 15(3) and 15(4) are foundational bricks of the reservation in the country.
